For example, newly trained and employed individuals managing different areas of a mine may not always understand the complexities of modern mining methodology and what to do with the products, such as waste rock left over after mining has been completed.Further, he believes that the risks to operations resulting from this lack of skilled managers will remain a key challenge of the industry.This lack of available skills has resulted in the introduction of mine control and management systems, such as Micromine&#x2019;s Pitram solution, to supplement the skills shortage and sustain managerial control of mining operations in the pit.<br xmlns=""/>
In use for over 13 years, the company&#x2019;s Pitram system focuses on the productivity of the entire operation, including people, taking into account the environment where the operations are taking place as well as the context, he says.&#x201C;If the Pitram mine management software is used in conjunction with a software scheduling product, the mine then has a tool that can be used to manage the mining processes and maintain efficient ore extraction,&#x201D; he notes.&#x201C;The efficient use of such tools reduces waste and the incorrect dumping of ore and waste and increases extraction,&#x201D; Kattowitz says.&#x201C;The system also helps to manage equipment through checklists or by operators using a licensing validation process.
